The Small Business Emporium – now open
Find a gift for any occasion and much more at the Small Business Emporium.
Our shop, founded by Donna, Paul, Lis and Dawn opened 1st September 2016 and now houses twenty-seven (and counting) small, local independent traders offering a wide range of artisan and eclectic goods.
We can be found at 10 Market Street, Denton, M34 2XW
Here’s how it started and grew…….
We, Donna and Paul of Town & Country Kitchen were attending Ashton Christmas market in 2015 (pic 1), opposite was Lis of Piper Truly Kids (pic 2) and a friendship was born. We developed our relationship whilst attending more markets and at one event in Stockport (pic 3) a plan was hatched. ‘Let’s open a shop together’!
In August 2016, after many more discussions and planning, Lis phoned Donna very excited, ‘I’ve found a shop in Denton,’ (pic 4) so we went to have a look. It was to be quite a challenge and could be described as a ‘bit messy’ (pics 5 and 6). The challenge was there to be met!
The clean up began (pic 7) with family and friends (pic 8) helping out massively, and we thank them all. Then BHS announced closure and they were selling their display stands. So off we went to Crown Point, Denton and manikins and display units, shelves and hooks were procured (pic 9).
The support we have we received has been beyond expectation and the shop has captured the imagination of lots of people. Andrew Gwynne MP, officially opened the shop on 3rd September ( pics 13 and 14) and offered ongoing support. We have also had great support from ‘Flair’ hairdressers, Crown Point Tavern and Vali at the newsagent next door and many other local businesses including cafes and pubs. Thank you all!
We have also been supported and become involved with the Denton Town Team and have been invited to a meeting to discuss our plans and propositions for the future. We are not finished yet. Watch this space!!!
